Hydrogen cyanide

Hydrogen cyanide, sometimes called prussic acid, is a chemical compound with the formula HCN and structure H−C≡N. It is a colorless, extremely poisonous, and flammable liquid that boils slightly above room temperature, at 25.6 °C (78.1 °F). HCN is produced on an industrial scale and is a highly valued precursor to many chemical compounds ranging from polymers to pharmaceuticals. Large-scale applications are for the production of potassium cyanide and adiponitrile, used in mining and plastics, respectively. It is more toxic than solid cyanide compounds due to its volatile nature.

Examples of use of hydrogen cyanide
1. Dangerous chemicals Among the chemicals already produced by mini–machines are hydrogen cyanide, phosgene, and methyl isocyanate, he wrote.
2. The informant said the operatives had planned to use a small, easily concealed device to release hydrogen cyanide into multiple subway cars.
3. "They are ethane, acetylene, benzene, hydrogen cyanide –– things that go out the fume hood of an organic chemistry lab so that people don‘t drop dead," Lunine said.
4. What was the purpose of his computer research on hacking, and on how to buy and mix large quantities of chemicals into deadly hydrogen cyanide gas?
5. It called Marri‘s interest in sulfuric acid "noteworthy" because it is an ingredient "in a hydrogen cyanide binary device." The mobtakker would be such a device.
